What Do You Guys Think?

Why I can't stop reading Mormon housewife blogs

I posted this already on Facebook last week but I was reluctant to comment too much on it since I don't want people to think I'm/Mormons are crazy.

So, friends, what do you think of this post?

Even though she said like 7 times that she wouldn't let the missionaries in, I think we should send them anyway!! Seriously though, I enjoyed the article. I thought she was pretty fair and judicial and I'm glad she can't read my blog b/c it's definitely not like those other ones she described!!

I have mixed feelings...clearly she can see that Mormon mommies have a good lifestyle. I think she reads the blogs because she only sees the superficial, not that the gospel makes us happy.
It is interesting that so many people think that motherhood is miserable. She was very flattering in stating that the blogs are uplifting, that motherhood is important to the bloggers, and that they live calm and happy lives. She does seem to think that it is too good to be true, and that these women must be hiding something.
I felt like she was being derogatory too. I know I don't spend my days planning elaborate parties, decorating cakes, sewing, decorating my house, arranging flowers, and wearing vinatage clothing. She also mentions the return to "old fashioned", and how charming it is. How about instead of calling it old fashioned we call it self reliance...what a novel idea to do something yourself.
I think it is great exposure for the handful of popular Mormom mommy bloggers. Now more people will read their blogs, and they will make more money because they have more readers. I read two of the blogs she mentioned and I know that they talk about the gospel and share things that aren't always pretty. I think these bloggers have a big responsibility to share the gospel.
Now I better get back to re-upolstering my furniture and flower arranging. I have birds and animals in my home that help me clean too. We like to sing songs while we do it...just like Cinderella and Snow White!

Emily, that's hilarious!
I think it's sad how strong our mainstream culture is against domesticity and motherhood. I reminds me of the book I just read about marriage. The author basically got realized too late that she did want kids and she wanted to be married. Satan is so crafty in how he can convince an entire nation that parenthood is dull, mundane, and sucks the life out of you. I'm reading another book right now about how narcissism has infected our youth. They are constantly being told by the media and by their parents that they need to get a career, travel, etc before they get into a serious relationship and have kids. You never hear about the joy that comes with parenting because it actually requires selflessness. I think it's great that these bloggers have such a large following and they are able to portray the joy they get from raising children. In some ways, I think she was trying to convince herself that she really didn't want the mormon mommy lifestyle. Some part of her must yearn for that otherwise she wouldn't be reading those blogs. I better go. Adam will be home soon and I need to put my high heels on so I can vacuum and serve him dinner.

Wow, I just realized that some of those sentences were pretty crappy. I hope it makes sense because I'm too tired to edit.
